History

1521 Roger Hawkyns bequesthed 2s. to repair the bells.
1529 Money for a treble bell bequeathed by John Sharp.
1552 Record of 3 bells. [1]
1721 4 or 5 bells were cast by Samuel Knight and John Waylett and hung in a new frame (the present one).
1740 Tenor recast or added by Thomas Lester.
1799 Record of 5 bells. [2]
1974 Bells rehung on new headstocks by the Kent C. A. They were fitted with ball bearings, new gudgeons, the crown staples were drilled out and new independent ones were provided with new top ends. The bells did not leave the tower but were weighed in the tower after the work by Alan Berry. The bells were rededicated on 28th April.
[1] Item iij bells in the steple. Sold ... a saunce bell. (Edwardian Inventory, 1552)
[2] The church, which is dedicated to St. Mary Magdalen, is a very small building, having at the west end a pointed tower, out of which rises a small slender spire. In the tower there are five bells. ('The History and Topographical Survey of the County of Kent. Vol 8', Edward Hasted)
