History

1310 Parish created out of the vast ancient parish of Reculver. At this time the old saxon chapel was given the present tower.
1621 2nd (of 4) recast by Joseph Hatch.
1624 Treble and tenor (of 4) recast by Joseph Hatch.
1638 3rd (of 4) recast by Joseph Hatch.
1724 Treble (of 6) cast by Samuel Knight. The existing timber frame was probably installed at this time.
1737 2nd (of 6) cast by Samuel Knight.
1867 Tenor recast by Robert Stainbank.
1868 3rd recast by Robert Stainbank.
1905 Frame strengthened, bells quarter turned and rehung by Mears & Stainbank.
1923 Bells repaired by Mears & Stainbank.
1982 2nd clapper repaired.
2011 2 bells added to augment the ring to 8 by Whitechapel. The Hatch bell was found to be cracked and was welded and all of them were tuned. The bellframe was adapted and strengthened and bells rehung by Whites of Appleton. Traces of an older bellframe were discovered in the frame, which was ordered to be conserved. The new octave was dedicated on 4th December by the Bishop of Dover.
