History

1934 A church was built to serve the mining community in the Mill Hill area of Deal. It was equipped with a single bell hung on a bracket from the chimney. The foundation stone was laid on 22 Mar by the Archdeacon of Canterbury. It was opened on 27 Sept by the Bishop of Dover. [1] [2]

FOUNDATION STONE LAID The foundation stone of the Mission Hall of St. Richard's, a branch of St. Leonard's Church, Deal, to serve the spiritual needs of the mining community at Mill Hill, Deal, was laid by the Archdeacon of Canterbury (the Ven. E. H. Hardcastle) on Thursday. (Kentish Express, Fri 23 Mar 1934)
[2] St. Richard's Church Hall, Mill Hill, Deal, built at a cost of £2200, was opened and dedicated by the Bishop of Dover on Thursday, The Rev. A. E. O. Anderson (Curate of St. Leonards) will have charge of the hall. By shutting off the sanctuary, the building will seat about 350, and will be used for social purposes.
