CARRILON MACHINE |
| There is a carillon machine at Tenterden.
The present one was installed in 1951 to replace an earlier one. Richard Offen's
researches showed that the church possessed some sort of chiming machine as early as the
seventeenth century. The present machine operates two hammers per bell (to allow rapid notes) and
sounds at 6 am, 9 am, noon, 3 pm, 6 pm and 9 pm. The tunes are as follows:
Monday: hymn tune,
"Duke Street" Tuesday: "Endearing Young Charms" (me All over!!!) Wednesday: "Last Rose of Summer" Thursday: "My Lodgings are on Cold Ground" Friday: - ?? Saturday: "The Bells of St Mildred's" - known locally as "the Saturday Scramble"! Sunday: hymn tune, "Franconia" - 'Blest are the Pure in Heart' |
