HISTORY

1603

Present bell (old 2nd) cast by Joseph Hatch, one of his first bells.

1610

Bell cast by Joseph Hatch (tenor).

1821

The treble, being cracked, was sold for £14. 10s.

c.1850

During the 19th Century, a new frame was constructed for the present bell.

1859

The tenor (being cracked) was sold for £50. 14s. 2d.

1887 Stahlschmidt records that there were formerly 3 bells here.
There were formerly three bells - one was sold in 1821, being probably cracked and useless; of the inscription on this no record remains. Another was sold in 1859; it was 33 inches in diameter. This was also cracked. The barbarous local custom of striking the bells with a hammer at weddings and on other festive occasions is … probably the initial cause of the disappearance of these two bells.

1982

The bell was repaired for swing chiming.
