HISTORY

1450 Bell cast by John Danyell (treble).
1371-92 Bell cast by William Burford (middle bell)
c.1400 Bell cast by Robert Burford (tenor).
1552 Record of 3 bells in the tower.
1799 Edward Hasted wrote:
The church, which is dedicated to St. Mary, consists of three isles and one chancel, having a pointed turret steeple at the west end, in which hang three bells.
1956 The cracked tenor was recast at Whitechapel, preserving the crown in the church including all the canons & inscription. The dilapedated ringing fittings & framework were removed, the bells tuned, quarter turned & staples drilled out & rehung on transverse beams. Bells 1 and 2 were never weighed.
1968 An attempt to steal the preserved crown of the old tenor failed.
