HISTORY |
1589 Bell cast by Giles Reve (later 2nd of 4). 1636 Tenor cast by John Wilnar (of 4). 1654 3rd (of 4) cast by Anthony Bartlett. 1796 Treble (of 4) broke and was sold for scrap. 1873 Treble (of 3) recast and treble and bell between 2nd and tenor inserted to make 5, by Mears & Stainbank. Bells hung without wheels for chiming. 1920 Treble added to make 6 and bells rehung for ringing, by Alfred Bowell, who retuned all the bells (it seems apart from the tenor).
1920 30 Apr:
To rehanging the five bells and adding a sixth £250. To chiming apparatus and refixing clock hammers £10.. Extra. To bringing ropes through to the ground floor, with tubes & turned wood ceiling bosses and extra length of rope which was not included in my estimate £5. Total £265. Less. Allowance for being done with Halling £5. Paid by Cq. 7 May 1920. £2601990 Bells quarter-turned, retuned and rehung by Whitechapel.. 1991 27th Jan. Bells rededicated. 1996 Ringing room moved from the ground floor to upstairs.
