1962

John Taylor & Co.

This bell was removed in 2009 and replaced with the former 5th, which itself had been welded.

HISTORY

1460-85

Bell cast by John Kebyll (destined to become the 4th of 5).

1607

Treble and 2nd (of 5) cast by Joseph Hatch.

1619

Tenor (of 5) cast by Joseph Hatch.

1678

Bell recast by William Hill. While it was probably the present 4th (3rd of 5), accounts from the time record it as the "4t", implying that there were 6 bells in the tower at the time. All the bells were rehung.

1684

Bells rehung.

1876

Bells rehung by John Warner with new fittings.

1913

4th recast and bells rehung with steel headstocks by Alfred Bowell. He added an additional pit for a future treble.

1913 7 Mar:
To recasting the 3rd bell and rehanging the whole peal of give including the rearranging and strengthening of the old framework and fixing the iron rope guides £80. To additional oak framework for the sixth bell and repairing the floor £5. Total £85. Paid cq 23 Mar 1913.

1931

Treble added to make 6 by Mears & Stainbank.

1962

Bells retuned and rehung by John Taylor in a strengthened frame. The old 5th was replaced with a new bell, the old bell being displayed under the tower.

2009

The old cracked 5th was welded and put back into the tower, replacing the modern Taylor bell.  (Fate of Taylor bell not currently known by webmaster.)

GALLERY

The old 5th had been standing on the floor of the church between 1962 and 2009, when it was welded and restored to the tower.  These pictures, courtesy KCACR website, 2009.
