HISTORY

1878-80

Church built by William Coppard Banks. It featured a North East Tower (heightened in 1887), polygonal Chancel, apsidal Western Baptistery and elaborate Western rose window with stained glass by Henry Holiday.

1879

Bell cast and hung for ringing by John Warner & Sons.

1887

Stahlschmidt assumes that there is "presumably one modern bell".

1889

2 clock bells cast by John Warner & Sons.

1975

19th April

George Elphick in his Southwark Diocesan Survey notes one bell hung un a "Z" frame with wheel, stay and slider. He noted that the headstock is "wormy". He also notes the 2 clock bells, fixed to a beam. All the bells had Doncaster Headstocks.

1999

Church demolished due to severe structural problems. The ringing bell was either damaged or stolen. The two clock bells were sent to the Keltek Trust for use elsewhere.

2004

Christmas Eve The new church was opened with a synthetic bells system in the tower.

2007

Of the old clock bells, the lighter one went to Lynsted to augment the ring of 5 to 6. The larger went to St Paul's, Canonbury as a clock bell.
