THE RINGS OF EIGHT

Photo MAB, Jun 2001 Dartford Wingham
All Saints, Maidstone
Kent's largest Parish Church and First Ring of Eight?
There are records of 6 bells here in 1887 & 8 bells in 1719. The tenor was recast and the bells were rehung in 1678, so this is a plausible date for their augmentation to 8.
Holy Trinity, Dartford
An early Ring of 8 dated 1702, although since recast.
St Mary the Virgin, Wingham
The oldest complete ring of 8 bells in the county, dated 1720.
There have been 104 towers in Kent which have boasted rings of 8 at one time or another. Since then: 11 have since been augmented and 2 have been lost.
