HISTORY |
1585 |
A bell cast by Giles Reve. |
|
|
1826 |
Two of the three bells were sold for repairs; small bell purchased from Thomas Mears II. | |
| c.1815 | The upper part of the tower collapsed and was rebuilt with bricks. | |
| 1874 | The tower was in a ruinous condition. Sir Arthur Blomfield, rather than restoring it, encased it with a new tower, cutting new windows but leaving the early stone in place. | |
| 1887 | Stahlschmidt recorded one bell and a Priest's bell (which he gives as 1826). He pointed out that there were formerly 3 bells in the tower. | |
| 1966 | Tower struck by lightning and gutted by fire in a summer storm. Bells fell and were broken. The tower was restored with new floors and roof. | |
| 1966 | 8th Dec | New bell cast from the metal of both bells, with additional metal (Preston-by Wingham tenor was recast at the same time). |
| 1967 | Bell installed for stationary chiming with a lever-clapper. |
