HISTORY

1866   Bell cast for St Lawrence, Allington.
1971   St Lawrence's church made redundant.
1972 2nd June Bell removed from St Lawrence's church by David Cawley for the KCACR.
1974   St Nicholas Church was built and the St Lawrence bell was rehung here for swing chiming by Whitechapel.

THE MARY BELL
1968
Within the castle is a very large house bell, about 7" diameter, hung on a spring; probably early 20th-century when the Castle was restored in 1905.
1281 The existing manor house on the site was fortified by Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports Stephen de Penchester.
1492 Castle was converted into a mansion.
1905 Castle restored by Sir Martin Conway.
1951 The castle became home to a convent of the Order of Carmelites. The castle is currently the private residence of the psephologist Sir Robert Worcester and Lady Worcester and is not open to the public.
1968 Bell cast and hung in the Gatehouse.
