HISTORY

1552

Record of 2 bells in the tower: "Item ij bells in the stepill".

1664

Bell cast by Thomas Palmar I and hung in a frame which appears to have been built at the same time, as it is engaged with the timberwork of the turret.
1758 Rev'd Bryan Faussett wrote:
This Church, which is very small, consists of the Chancell and Body only. In The Tower, which is very low, hangs 1 little Bell, inscribed thus: Thomas Palmar made Mr.
1799 Edward Hasted wrote:
The church, which is dedicated to St. Martin, is but small, consisting of only one isle and one chance, having a tower at the west end, with a low turret on it, flat at top, in which there is one bell.
1922 The tower was significantly altered and partially rebuilt.
1967 Bell inspected by David Cawley who noted that the fittings appeared to be as old as the bell, and included a large half wheel converted to a full one. The bell appeared never to have been out of the turret since installation.
